Matthew Xavier Corrigan will conclude his work under the Ghostking is Dead alias on April 30th with the release of new LP And Just Like That…
With the project dating back to well before the foundation of Hausu Records in 2018, Corrigan will be wrapping it up to focus on releasing music under his given name.
Over the course of four years, the project experimented without bounds, bringing the artist's unique voice and songwriting quirks to excursions in rock, pop, folk, electronic music and various fusions between, drawing comparisons to artists as far apart as Talking Heads and Destroyer. Now it is to be laid to rest.
Described by Corrigan as a "full-length eulogy", "And Just Like That…" will be the only album released under the Ghostking is Dead name, drawing from material polished during the pandemic years in his home studio. A collection concise and cohesive, full of the larger-than-life charm he brought into the project, the tracks are a refinement on the sonic signature that he landed on - lush guitar wash, playful synth, soaring vocals both synthetically augmented and beautifully organic, an eye for pop sensibility while twisting the format.
From the cavernous reverberations of previously-released single I Don't Heed Help to the addictive bounce of the burnout anthem Time and the split-brain anxiety of opening track If Someone Loves Me, the record captures the full scope of the project before its burial.
Ghostking is Dead's music captures the doubt, transience and placelessness of trying to establish an identity in a hostile Ireland - on One Year Left he ruminates on leaving a beloved home and dog behind, on The Wonders of Interior Design he lists out imperfect homes and demands "for the low low price of all my cash, the least I deserve is a cat and a gaff".
